The Autumn Leaves

Over at Julia's Place I decided to join the 100 Word Challenge - except that this week Julia has shortened it to 50 words (not including the title words). It's a short post to ease me back into blogging after a couple of weeks' break (more about that tomorrow). Short but meaningful I like to think. I would have liked to provide my own photos but these are from Google Images. The top one taken in Kent by Mandy Barrow and the bottom one is my old Primary School in Stanmore. Coincidently it is also the view from my bedroom window - almost, as we lived directly opposite the lightning tree in the centre of the field. Read my 50 words on: The Autumn Leaves, and then click on the link to go read the other entries.

The autumn leaves, early evenings, bonfires in the gardens. Walking home from school in the days when I wore short skirts and woolly tights in sensible school shoes. I think my legs were longer then. The air was fresh and the leaves were crisp. My dreams were ambitious and my hopes were high.

  1. I absolutely love this. Fall has always been my favorite time of year, partially because of the memories it brings of going to school (what can I say, I love learning). I'll be back, I am so intrigued by your site and your story.

  4. Sally-Jayne - I was so full of resolution every autumn which gradually wained as the school year progressed. But autumn held a magic hope of a brilliantly successful year ahead... :)

  6. Thanks Re - autumn has always signified a new beginning for me. Perhaps because my birthday and the Jewish New Year are both in September.

  8. I like the links to nature and past events. I wonder if a part 2 would have a But . . at the beginning of it or a link to now? I look forward to exploring more of your site anon. Gill Sussex

  9. Anna - I know, it's so basic but we all walked home from school in the autumn as dreamy adolescents.

Gill - Life definitley took a different path but I'm not sure if a 'but' is required. Maybe a 'however'? :)

  13. @Dughall - definitely ups and downs but the beginning was always an up. February was the pits.

@Robin - Aah, dreamy adolescence even thoug it cost me in less than wonderful exam results.

  14. I do hope that those dreams are being realised. This reminded me of my youth. The air had a particular sharp smell with bonfires or coal fires burning. Thanks for the memories!

  15. This is beautiful and really evocative of those long-past school days for many of us, I am sure.

  16. jfb (Julia) - I sort of went back to being that school girl eager for feedback from the teacher so thank you for your comment. Are the dreams being realized? Some yes, some not yet... :)

Bubbleboo - I know, I almost want to go back there and do it all again, minus the homework that is :)
