Genesis Party

It was indeed an extravaganza. Held in the sports hall at the local community centre with music, dancing, performance and a sumptuous lunch afterwards. I've been to Bar Mitzvas with less food and the cakes could have been served at the best weddings.

The children, dressed in white, sang songs and danced their way through the creation. It was all very impressive.

All the children that is, except DD. DD sat firmly planted on her chair and refused to join in with anything. I tried to persuade her. The teacher tried to persuade her. The music lady tried. In the end we gave up. This is the face we got for our trouble... I was so proud - not.

The other children had a great time.

I didn't manage to photo record much from the party as I was busy sitting with one sulky child on my lap and trying to look proud. Meanwhile, every time I pointed the camera, Sulky Child pulled my arm down so the picture was ruined. So here are the displays of the some of the different days of creation that were made at the Bayit Me'arayach dates.

On the seventh day God rested and so did we.

  1. Some kids just don't like performing. I was like that. My DD is like that too. I don't think it's fair that everyone in the class is expected to get up and perform in front of an audience. No one asked them if they want to. If someone asked me to get up and perform I would die of shame. There's a reason I hide behind a computer all day.
Be yourself, kid. Don't let anyone make you be anybody else.

    1. You are absolutely right. I wasn't too devastated. It was more that I was sorry for the ganenet. Today the ganenet was falling over herself telling me how DD joins in with all the rehearsals and knows the routines really well, etc... So we obviously felt bad for each other. Anyway some of those kids are nearly 6 and DD's still 3!

  3. Don't let it get to you - this used to be very usual behaviour for my kids at all kindergarten parties - the more I stressed about it the worse they were - and then one day, each of them got over it all by themselves and enjoyed themselves - I guess it is all too much for them when they are small and they are just too far out of their comfort zone...

    1. True. See my comment to Netanya above. I actually wasn't too bothered about it.

    1. I hope so but I'm not holding my breath - I have one strong-willed daughter here.

  5. I love that photograph of her little grumpy face. Don't worry, you will be able to get your own back one day with evidence like this ;)

  6. Adiel was four in October and we just had his gan party last week. It was the FIRST time he's participated in *anything* - we were amazed. Usually, whether it's his birthday party or a gan party/show, he sits on my lap and refuses to do anything. Last year at his birthday party they even did the bumps for an empty chair since he wouldn't participate! This year he wavered between enthusiasm and reluctance, but did join in. We were just happy that he did it himself, and enjoyed it. As you say - it's good not to let it bother you, every kid is different and there is nothing wrong with being shy/not wanting to perform!

    1. Thanks Deborah, I agree but nice to have the support of someone who's experienced it. Interestingly, on the video clip with Nir Barakat, she's joining in fully - because I wasn't there I think.
